OPEN ADOPTION

Open adoption is a relationship between birth and adoptive families, not so very different from other familial relationships, requiring the same skills we use with grandparents, in-laws, and siblings. It is built on trust between those involved, and an unconditional love for the child. For a clear description of this process, the history and experiences, visit the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse at http://naic.acf.hhs.gov and go to our Referral & Support page for a bibliography related to adoption.

What if my adoption does not involve openness, what are my rights for future contact? The ND Century Code 14-15 defines the law and practice related to: SEARCH AND DISCLOSURE.
